Chocolate. It’s my weakness. And if I could, I would make a huge batch of brownies and eat the whole pan to myself. But society tells me that’s a bad idea. Thanks to my Air Fryer, I can make a small batch of brownies suitable for 4 (I’ll share with hubby and the kids) that won’t heat up the entire house. That’s where these brownies in the Air Fryer come in handy.

After making S’mores on my Air Fryer, I was hooked on creating simple and easy dessert recipes in my Air Fryer. These brownies are so simple yet delicious and they can be made in one bowl.

When it comes to baking in your Air Fryer, you will need the following guideline:

  • Use smaller tools. 7-inch pans or smaller come in handy when baking in the Air Fryer. Certain Air Fryer Accessory kits have smaller pans for baking.
  • Reduce the temperature and time for baking in the Air Fryer. The general rule of thumb is to reduce by 30 degrees and cut time by 20%. These tips and others can be found in my Air Fryer Tips and Tricks post.
  • Cut recipes in half. Since Air Fryers are smaller than your oven, trying to convert an entire cake or brownie recipe may not work. Cut it in half should ensure that your baked goods get baked perfectly.

🧾 A Quick Look at the Ingredients

Ingredient amounts and full recipe instructions are on the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  • Dry ingredients: all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, sugar, salt, baking powder
  • Wet ingredients: melted unsalted butter, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, eggs

🍳 Tools You’ll Need

  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk or silicone spatula
  • 6-inch round or square baking pan (that fits in your air fryer)
  • Nonstick spray or parchment paper
  • Air fryer

How to make Air Fryer Brownies

First, prepare your 7-inch baking pan by generously greasing with butter on the bottom and all sides. Set aside.

Preheat your Air Fryer by setting the temperature to 330 degrees Fahrenheit and allowing it to run for about 5 minutes while you prepare your brownie batter.

Add your all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, melted butter, sugar, eggs, vegetable oil, salt, baking powder, and vanilla extract into a large bowl and stir until thoroughly combined. Your batter should be thick.

Add it to the prepared baking pan and smooth out the top.

Place in your preheated Air Fryer and bake for 15 minutes or until a toothpick entered in the center comes out mostly clean.

Remove and allow to cool in the pan before removing and cutting.

You can add in your favorite nuts before baking if you like. The kids don't generally like them so i usually leave them out. But ¼ cup of walnuts added to this brownie mixture is a dream come true.

Tanya's Top Tips

  • If you don't have a basket-style air fryer, you can make brownies in a toaster oven with an air fry setting at the same temperature and time.
  • Store any leftover air fryer brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to a week to keep them extra fudgy. For longer storage, wrap individual brownies tightly and freeze them in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months—just thaw at room temperature or warm in the microwave before serving.

I hope you enjoy this brownie recipe as much as we do. You'll love it topped with ice cream or whipped cream.

I’ve made this recipe twice now and both times I’ve been amazed at how easy and quick it is! I definitely see my conventional oven brownies recipe being replaced 😋

    Hello Tanya!
I really love these brownies! I make them about every 2 weeks.
I have a question though. With the price of eggs recently rising again, I am trying to take out 1 egg from the recipe and replacing it with other ingredients to create the moisture needed. I have not found the answer yet. I've tried extra oil, milk, applesauce etc. but they don't create the moisture lost from the 1 egg.
What would you suggest? I have even reached out to a commercial baker but she could not provide an answer! (I question whether she really read my email)

Hi Laura, I've never replaced the egg, however, I have some ideas. I'm thinking either flax egg replacement (I believe it's used in Vegan baking), or applesauce or bananas, or maybe even mayonnaise. You'd have to test it but I think some of these are worth a try. Here us a link to the flax egg if you are interested. https://minimalistbaker.com/how-to-make-a-flax-egg/

I tried your easy recipe and they turned out fantastic! I used my oven’s air fryer mode dice I don’t have a counter type one. They took at least 30 minutes to bake because of that. But they taste delicious and are cakey and fudgy.

Thank you for this recipe! Have been searching for a great air fryer dessert and this fits the bill! Used a 7" round dark cake pan for baking. I checked after 11 min, every 2 min. For my air fryer (Vortex Power XL) it took 16 min total. Add 3 tbsps of dark cocoa and 3 tbsps of extra dark cocoa which was perfect. Also added a handful of chopped walnuts. After brownie was finished baking, cut slits on top of brownie and added a few mini marshmallows in the slits. I could not sample yesterday because I'm fasting for Lent but made for a buddy of mine who said it was AWESOME. He rated 5 stars. I came out beautiful - thank you!

I just made these brownies. Oh my so delicious I went by the time it said 15 minutes had to cook a little longer due to being a little undercooked in the middle. I have a ninja foodi. I just used a 7 inch dark caphalon pan. I sprayed mine with bakers joy and I also used self rising flour instead of all purpose. Yummmny

Hi Elizabeth, it's only 1/2 a cup of all-purpose flour. This recipe makes a small batch of brownies.

I have tried to make these today, the batter looks good but after cooking as suggested the middle was still raw and runny. I gave it another 10 minutes but now the outside is crispy and the middle is still runny. After a further 10 minutes the outside was turning black and the middle was still runny. Now it’s in the bin.Any suggestions what has gone wrong?

Hi Heather, my guess is that it may be the actual pan. I've had a pan that did this to me with this recipe but the pan was very thick, resulting in different texture. When I used the pan that came with my air fryer baking kit, it was perfect.

Hi, I have an air fryer mini. Do you know if there are pans small enough to fit this and could I jus halve your recipe?

Hi Jana, You could use smaller pans. I'd suggest ramekins. Reduce the bake time if baking in smaller pans.

Just made these, and they were a hit! Very fast to put together. I thought the ones pictured looked a little darker around the edges than we like, so I reduced the baking time to 14 minutes, and they were perfect!

Made these last night. They were excellent!
These are my new goto recipe for brownies. Thank you, Tanya! I'd read a number of the reviews that said sometimes they don't get done in the middle so I went ahead and put them in my microwave for 2 minutes after the airfryer 7 minutes. NOTE - I live in a high altitude so cooking times are different here. Test them when you take them out of the airfryer and microwave them accordingly and test again.
